NISSAN
Peter Merrie Marketing Operations Manager Nissan New Zealand Ltd
Nissan has always been a world leader. The large multi-national company now operates on all continents of the world. In 2007 Nissan sold more than 3.5 million vehicles worldwide and with its alliance partner Renault selling a further 2.5 million. With a strong hold on 9.1 percent of the global market share last year, it makes them one of the largest companies operating in the motor industry in the world. But turn the clock back a few years to 1962 when Nissans were Datsuns – that was what they were known as when they first arrived in New Zealand. In 1981 the company re-branded itself worldwide and the Nissan brand became a household term. The alliance with Renault was formed in 1999, with the two companies co-operating on the development of vehicles and sharing technology. In 2006 Nissan produced its 100 millionth vehicle. And in an increasingly environmentally aware world, the company is currently trialling hybrid, fuel cell, electric and plug-in vehicles. Many of its engines are already E10 compatible, meaning they run on a 10 percent bio-fuel mix. Nissan has pioneered the use of CVT (continuously variable transmissions) for better fuel economy. Compared to conventional automatics, an engine with a CVT transmission is about 10 percent more economical. In 2007 more than a million Nissans were sold with CVT transmissions. Better production techniques now mean over 90 percent of every Nissan is recyclable. The variable valve event lift technology used in many Nissan petrol engines is responsible for 40 percent less emission of hydro carbons while providing 10 percent better fuel economy. In New Zealand Nissan offers a wide range of vehicles from the compact Micra, the sophisticated Maxima, the tough Navara ute to the 350Z coupe, backed up by 33 dealers offering specialised service.
GISVIN
GisVin Limited 59 Innes St, Gisborne New Zealand
Phone: 64 6 8679089 Mobile: 64 212 485205 Email:
GisVin may have been started with just Gisborne in mind, but it is now one of the true national players in the New Zealand wine industry. The company was established as a contract grape juicing plant in 2001 by four growers to process Gisborne fruit for wineries without their own facilities. The aim was to enhance juice quality and in turn the reputation of the Gisborne wine industry.
Before GisVin, these grapes had been bulk transported out of the region to wineries in Auckland, Hawke's Bay, Martinborough and Blenheim. That time on the road was taking its toll on the quality of the fruit.
The state of the art facility was commissioned in February 2002, and processed 2900 tonnes of grapes. That quickly grew, with more than 7,500 tonnes processed on behalf of 23 clients in 2008. Although the underlying concept is still the same, GisVin now also provides contract winemaking, with in excess of 1.53 million litres fermented in 2008.
The company has continued to expand its plant. Currently, the operation is based on five Diemme bag presses. Clarification is by a choice or combination of a new generation Westphalia GSC 95 centrifugal separator, flotation technology, or cold settling, along with rotary vacuum filtration of lees. Tank capacity is 84 Scada controlled tanks holding a total of 1,900,000 litres. A new Della Toffola PFC 200 central membrane press, doubling of intake capacity, office/laboratory expansion and increased refrigeration, will be in place for 2009.
Systems at GisVin incorporate an operational culture based on food safety and product integrity, obtaining standards that exceed the accreditation requirements of customers. These include a HACCP based management system, BRC compliance, SWNZ Winery accreditation and Vinsight winery software. GisVin will undergo the Wine Standards Management Plan audit during the 2009 vintage. GisVin will continue to expand the operation in line with increased customer demand for Gisborne grapes providing both existing and new clients with a full wine making service, which in turn relieves pressure on continuous investment for increased production at client's own facilities.
They say that taste knows no compromises, and GEA Westfalia Separator NZ is the first to step up to that mark.
The company prides itself in being able to provide a clear difference in the production of high quality wine.
As a subsidiary of GEA Westfalia Separator AG, a member of the GEA group, GEA Westfalia Separator NZ is a market leader in the supply, commissioning and training at its high-performance plants.
The company draws on the know-how of the complete global group to construct turnkey, ready-to-connect system solutions customized to the needs of their customers – no matter how big or small.
Those systems ensure that quality remains at the highest level in all processes.
GEA Westfalia Separator NZ provides solutions that are reliable and economical, guaranteeing only the highest product quality. It's a practice they have been following for more than 100 years.
The company was founded in Oelde, Westfaphalia in 1893. The design and manufacture of hand-operated centrifuges rapidly developed to manufacturing high-performance separators and decanters.
Today, the products are manufactured in Oelde and Niederahr (Germany) and Château-Thierry (France), and supplied for a wide range of applications world-wide. Only modern processes can guarantee economical production of high-quality wine, sparkling wine and champagne.
Their range of separators and decanters are considered perfect for any sized job – whether processing hundreds or thousands of tonnes. The high level of development of the plants ensures maximum yields and high degrees of purity in all clarification steps, right from the must to the finished wine.
The team in New Zealand are proud of the positive impact they have had on the value of their customers' businesses, in relation to increased yield and quality of their product, and the ongoing relationship in training, service and maintenance of our growing installed machine base.
And, in recognising the needs of the smaller producer, GEA Westfalia Separator recently introduced the ECO series of small clarifiers, which offer similar high efficiencies with the same high quality. Potential paybacks of less than two years and many cases less than one year make Westfalia centrifuges an economical choice.

Kerry Langley Marketing Manager Email: T 64 9 477 2247 M 64 21 921 239 F 64 9 477 2228 W sato.co.nz
SATO may have been created with a Japanese market in mind nearly six decades ago, but it is now very much a world player.
Established in 1940 SATO has built a tradition of innovation and service first in Japan and more recently around the world. Founded by the late Yo Sato, SATO was a pioneer in the identification industry, and in 1962 was one of the first to produce Hand Labelling Systems to help retailers and manufacturers identify and price products economically.
In 1974 SATO developed the world's first thermal transfer printer, capable of imprinting barcodes and OCR characters. SATO has gone on to become a global leader in the Automatic Identification and Data Collection (AIDC) industry.
Publicly listed in Japan, with group member companies around the world, SATO's international headquarters are in Singapore.
This is a company committed to improving customer productivity and efficiency, with the associated reduction in cost, through a unique business model – Data Collection Systems (DCS) and Labelling, which is at the heart of SATO, and the vision that drives them.
In January 2006, SATO acquired several key market leaders in Australasia to further its goals of expansion. In New Zealand and Australia SATO bought the bar-coding business of Checkpoint, which included the iconic Kiwi brand Quik Stik International, who pioneered the label industry in New Zealand almost 50 years ago.
SATO also has Walker Datavision, one of New Zealand's foremost providers of data capture solutions and consumables. Walker Datavision was a pioneer of traceability solutions in New Zealand, which is originally created for the dairy industry in the early 1990's, and later for manufacturing industries throughout the country.
As a result of the expertise gained from Walker Datavision's experience in traceability solutions, SATO New Zealand released the world's first affordable and productised traceability solution in December 2007. Label&Track is the culmination of 20 years experience in traceability engineering, and it has broken the cost barriers to world class functionality.
SATO New Zealand considers itself an end to end solution provider today, with products including Prime Labels, bar-code printers and consumables, label design software, handheld terminals, mobile computers, wireless infrastructure, RFID solutions, supply chain labelling, print engines, print and apply systems, RF site surveys, variable print bureau and technical service and support.
